Stephan de Ghelder, Book and Lyrics

Stephan’s career in show business has included professional work as an actor, singer, dancer, director, choreographer, and writer. He has worked on Broadway, off-Broadway, in national tours, summer stock, in regional theatres on stage and in television, in commercials, and in film in the U.S., Portugal, Holland, Australia, Greece, Spain, Mexico, and Egypt. He has worked with such notables as Agnes DeMille, Gower Champion, Carole Cook, John Goodman, Andre deShields, Shirley Jones, Joe Mantegna, Luci Arnaz, Tommy Tune, Marvin Hamlisch, Donna McKechnie, Betty Grable, and Anna Maria Alberghetti. He has written the Book and Lyrics for A Kiss From Alexander, A Woman Onstage, and A Dickens of a Carol with scores by composer Brad Simmons; the musical Troubador; special material and lyrics to Noel and Cole: Men About Town; and material for award shows and events. He has written the plays Meeting Mr. Right, When Jenny Comes Marching Home, and For Love of Will. His award-winning ten-minute plays have been performed in many states in the U.S. and Canada, plus a British “panto” performed in Abu Dhabi. In addition to writing, directing, and performing in the award-winning satirical musical revues License to Bash and Prime Ribbing: A Newsical Revue, he has written the satirical revue, Geezers.

From cruise ships and cabaret nightclubs to television talk shows and symphony concert halls, Broadway Conductor Brad Simmons has shared the stage with Tony winners Beth Leavel, Tonya Pinkins, Alice Ripley, Donna McKechnie and Grammy winners Sandi Patty and The B-52’s Kate Pierson. He is Music Supervisor and Music Director for the Douglas Carter Beane and Lewis Flinn musicals Hood and To Wong Foo. Career highlights include being in the cult movie Camp with Stephen Sondheim and Anna Kendrick; music-directing the Hello Again movie with Cheyenne Jackson, Audra McDonald and Martha Plimpton; orchestrating the country jukebox musical Fancy; conducting Lysistrata Jones on and off Broadway; developing Me and the Girls with Alan Cumming; teaching John Lithgow piano arrangements for Mr. and Mrs. Fitch; performing Cornelius in Hello, Dolly! with Carole Cook; composing the musicals A Kiss from Alexander, A Woman Onstage, A Dickens of a Carol with librettist Stephan de Ghelder; and producing his self-penned albums Dreamworld and Mundane Existence.
